Three ABVP leaders remanded to police custody

Ujjain, Sept 21: A local court here today remanded 3 ABVP leaders, who were arrested here yesterday on the charge of murdering Prof H S Sabharwal, to police custody till September 26.

However, another accused ABVP leader, Vishal Rajoria, is still absconding.

Police sought the custody of Sudhir Yadav, Pankaj Mishra and Hemant Dube for interrogation as they were among six people named accused in the murder of Prof Sabharwal during students violence at Madhav College here on August 26.

Sudhir Yadav and Hemant Dube were earlier detained on the charge of rioting and were on bail, before the CID registered murder case against them.

State ABVP President Shashi Ranjan Singh Akela and Organising Secretary Vimal Tomar were earlier arrested on murder charge and were in judicial custody till September 29.

A total of 37 people, belonging to ABVP, NSUI and Congress, had been arrested so far in connection with rioting after postponement of students union election.

Prof Sabharwal, who was assaulted by the students at the college campus, died on the same day, while another professor M L Nath was humiliated and his face blackened by the irate students, who went on rampage at the campus.
