Inadequate security to MCD staff see no sealing
New Delhi, Sept 21: The MCD today suspended the sealing drive here due to inadequate police protection for the staff after a city-wide protests by traders turned violent yesterday.
Corporation sources said the MCD sealing drive remained suspended today after staffers of the corporation raised apprehensions about their security in view of yesterday's incidents wherein traders clashed with the police and the MCD sealing squad.
Families of the staffers called up the Corporation expressing apprehensions about their safety.
''We have received phone calls from family members of hundreds of MCD officers expressing apprehensions about the safety of their kin.
They have demanded that unless adequate security is provided to them, they are not ready to undertake sealing operations,''Leader of the House Jitender Kochar told newspersons here.
The MCD leaders have conveyed the concerns of the MCD staff to the Commissioner, who, along with the police, decided to suspend sealing operations for today due to inability of the police to provide additional security.
The decision on whether to keep the sealing action in suspension in the coming days would be taken later tonight or tomorrow by the MCD administration and the police, corporation soruces said.
Yesterday, the MCD sealing operation suffered a severe setback due to violent protest by traders and the MCD was able to seal only 24 properties all over Delhi.
