CBI demands death sentence for Yakub Memon
Mumbai, Sep 15: The CBI today vehemently demanded the death penalty for Yakub Memon, brother of prime accused Tiger Memon, who was found guilty on September 12 by the designated TADA court, in the 1993 Mumbai bomb blast case.
Arguing on behalf of the CBI, regarding the quantum of punishment to be awarded to Yakub, CBI counsel C S Sharma argued that the accused had been found guilty under various sections of the TADA, IPC and various other Acts.
In view of the gravity of the offences, Yakub Memon deserves the death penalty, since the serial Mumbai blasts case qualifies to be called a 'rarest of the rare' case, he said.
