Bhopal, Sept 1: The Madhya Pradesh Congress today demanded to record statement of the eyewitness in Professor Harbhajan Singh Sabharwal murder case before the magistrate in the presence of a panel of advocates.

Alleging that eyewitness and Madhav College employee Komal Singh and his family members were being threatened, state Congress General Secretary Manak Agrawal said police and administration were trying to shield the accused due to political pressure.

He demanded that Komal, who fell ill after police interrogation, should be provided medical treatment in New Delhi.

Mr Agrawal also demanded Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's resignation for describing Mr Sabharwal's death as an accident besides removing Ujjain collector and Superintendent of Police.

He said the deceased's family must be provided Rs 25 lakh ex-gratia, while accused Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad members must be given a strong punishment.

Later, Opposition Leader Jamuna Devi, Mr Agrawal and other Congress leaders reached T T Nagar Police Station and urged the police to lodge a FIR under sections 199, 200 and 201 against Mr Chouhan for describing the incident as an accident.

Congressmen alleged that the CM had tried to mislead public by giving such a statement.
