Sensex opens 22 points in green at 11, 498 level
Mumbai, Aug 18: The BSE Sensex today opened 22 points in the green as the Asian indices and Indian auto as well as health care scrips firmed on account of low crude oil rates.
The crude price today hit a low of US dollar 70.89 per barrel mark.
The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) sensitive index (Sensex) opened at 11,498.42 points and soon touched the high of 11,508 points. It is currently trading at 11,485.94 which is 8.46 points more than the previous close of 11,477.48 points.
The midcap was up by 0.73 per cent and smallcap was up by 0.88 per cent. Amongst sectoral indices, auto was up 1.12 per cent and health care by 2.48 per cent.
Major gainers on the index were Cipla, Maruti Udyog, Tata Motors, ACC and Ranbaxy, all up between 1.35 and 2.31 per cent.
Besides, the losers were Hindalco, Hero Honda, Reliance Communications, Tata Steel and Reliance Energy, all down between 1.03 and 2.28 per cent.
