OBC quota in education not at cost of merit: PM
New Delhi, Aug 15: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today made a ''solemn commitment'' to expand educational opportunities ''for all youth'' under the proposed reservation for OBC students.
Asserting the government's resolve to providing reservation in educational institutions for students from socially backward sections, Dr Singh said this would be done by expanding opportunities for all students.
''This is our solemn commitment. In this manner, we will recognise and reward individual merit and hard work while working for an inclusive society,'' he said in his address to the nation on the occasion of the 60th Independence Day.
