Don't dilute 27 pc OBC reservation: DPA to PM

New Delhi, Aug 10: A delegation of Union Ministers and MPs from Tamil Nadu today called on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and demended immediate implementation of the proposed 27 per cent reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in central government-run higher educational institutions, including IITs and IIMs, without any dilution.

In a memorandum to Dr Singh, the DMK-led DPA MPs urged the Prime Minister ''not to dilute'' the proposal in any manner and sought its implementation without any delay.

Shipping, Highways and Road Transport Minister T R Balu and Communications and IT Minister Dayanidhi Maran were among the members of the delegation.

The MPs also submitted a copy of Chief Minister and DMK chief M Karunanidhi's letter to the Prime Minister last week, and of a resolution adopted in the Tamil Nadu assembly on May 31 in this regard.

Implementation of reservation for OBCs ''would be in consonance with the manifesto of Democratic Progressive Alliance (DPA) and the decision recently taken in the UPA Coordination Committee held on May 23 in New Delhi,'' the memorandum said.

Mr Karunanidhi had in his letter strongly insisted that the UPA ''should immediately implement'' the reservation without diluting it in any manner.
