Implementing OBC reservation in one go opposed
New Delhi, Aug 8: The United Students, opposed to caste-based reservation, today expressed concern over reports that the OBC quota will be implemented in one go and said adequate infrastructure should be created for increasing the number of seats.
It also sought a meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to explain their stand on the issue.
''We read with alarm the frequent attempts to pressurise the Government into rushing through the process of quota implementation by the ruling allies. We feel that this points to a dangerous trend,'' United Students leader Dhruv Suri said.
''The students have been provided the understanding that the quotas will be implemented subservient to creating infrastructural support for increasing the number of seats to represent the current balances. We are afraid that the reported remarks of your allies are threatening to disturb the equilibriumof that position,'' he added.
He said there are indications that other allies of the government will try to up the ante on the issue with a view to polarise their home constituencies.
