255 dead, 31 missing in Mumbai floods

Mumbai, Aug 11: At least 255 people have died and 31 others are reported missing, while 3.59 lakh people have been evacuated from low-lying areas all over Maharashtra due to rains and flood which has been tormenting Maharashtra from August 5.

Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil told reporters here that over 6.12 lakh people from 7,375 villages of 209 talukas in Maharashtra have been affected.

Amravati division reported maximum of 61 deaths, while the figure stood at 51 in Marathwada, Mr Patil said.

In Pandharpur and Sangli, the water level is above the danger mark but the situation is under control, Mr Patil added.
