80 Kashmiris among 248 who joined Indian Army

Srinagar, Aug 5: It was proud moment for the 248 recruits, including 82 from the Kashmir valley, to join the Indian Army family after they took the oath of allegiance of the Nation at the passing out parade today.

The Passing out and Attestation Parade of the 75th Recruit Course of the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry (JAKLI) Regiment was held at the Bana Singh parade ground in the Regimental Centre.

The Chief guest, J&K Chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad reviewed the parade and congratulated the young soldiers for becoming members of the Indian Army.

He expressed his best wishes to the young soldiers and asked them to be ready to make any sacrifice for the cause of the Nation.

The parents of the young soldiers who witnessed the parade were full up pride on seeing their children smartly marching past them.

A total of 248 Recruit took the oath of allegiance of the Nation.

Of these recruits, 82 were from the Kashmir valley while the balance were from the Jammu and Ladakh Divisions.

The Jammu and Kahsmir Light Infantry Regiment is one of the largest employer of the unemployed youths of militancy hit State.

The regiment is amongst the youngest and the most decorated Infantry Regiments in the Indian Army.

It has one Param Vir Chakra, One Ashok Chakra, One Padma Bhushan,11 Mahavir Chakras, one Kirti Chakra, Two Uttam Yudh Seva Medal, Eigh Ati Vishishth Seva medal, 42 Vir Chakras, 15 Shaurya Chakras, Two Yudh Seva Medal, 168 Sena Medals, 13 Vishisht Seva Medel and galore of other gallantry awards to its credit.

The regiment came into being as Jammu and Kashmir Militia in 1948 when the volunteers rallied to the clarion call of Sher--e-Kashmir Shekh Abdullah local leaders and successfully stalled the Pakistan evil design of 1947-48.
