JD(S)-BJP Govt - most corrupt, inefficient: Cong

Bangalore, Aug 3: The Congress dubbed the JD(S)-BJP coalition Government in Karnataka, which completed six months in office today, as most corrupt and inefficient and charged it with having failed on all fronts.

Addressing newspersons here, party Spokesperson V S Ugrappa alleged that the Government had betrayed all sections of the society, including students.

Coming down heavily on the Government for mishandling the fee subsidy issue to professional college students, he said the State Government was issuing confusing statements. After promising to extend fee subsidy to all categories of students on the floor of the House, it retracted its statement, only to do a volte face again.

Mr Ugrappa reiterated the party's demand to order a CBI inquiry into the bribery charges levelled against the Chief Minister by BJP Legislator G Janardhana Reddy.

On Karnataka Chief Secretary B K Das filing an affidavit before the High Court on the alleged financial irregularities in awarding piece-tenders in 1996 for executing Upper Krishna projects, he alleged that the State Government was using State employees to shield some of those allegedly involved in the scam. The Legislature Committee, headed by Vyjanath Patil, had found gross irregularities in awarding the tenders, causing loss of hundreds of crores to the exchequer.

He alleged that most of the programmes announced by the State Government in its budget this year had not been implemented, besides failing to check Chikungunya and treat lakhs of people suffering from the viral disease.
