Sensex opens 34 pts down at 10,737.50 pts
Mumbai, Aug 1: Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) sensitive index (Sensex) today opened 34 points down at 10,737.50 as compared to the previous close of 10,777.47 points, taking cue from the subdued Asian markets.
The Sensex is currently trading at 10,664.29 points, which is 79 points down from the previous close.
The Asian stocks were subdued today and the benchmark indices of Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Singapore were all down following the rise in crude oil prices.
All the BSE sectoral indices, except consumer durables, are trading in the red. Consumer durables was up 0.46 per cent.
Major losers are Reliance Communications, Hindalco, HDFC Bank, Cipla, SBI, Tata Motors, Gujarat Ambuja Cement, Maruti, Tata Steel and ICICI, all down between 1.38 to 2.85 per cent.
Top gainers are BHEL, Bharti Airtel L&T Bajaj Auto, Reliance Industries, NTPC and Ranbaxy, all up between 0.04 to 0.55 per cent.
