CPM leaders get ready for countrywide campaign
New Delhi, Jul 31: Communist Party of India (Marxist) bigwigs Prakash Karat, Sitaram Yechury, Buddhadeb Bhattacharya and V S Achuthanandan will address public meetings across the country during the party's campaign during the next two months focusing on communalism, farmers' suicides and foreign economic policies.
Party General Secretary Karat, who will kick off the campaign at Salem, Tamil Nadu tomorrow, will address a public meeting in Ahmedabad on Saturday.
Mr Karat will also speak at Villupuram, Tamil Nadu on Wednesday.
West Benal Chief Minister and CPI (M) Polit Bureau member Buddhadeb Bhattacharya will speak in Chennai on Agust 12 in the first of his only two speeches. The second venue of his speech is Sikar, Rajasthan opn August 31.
Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan also has two meetings to be addressed, one in Kanyakumari on August 20 and the second in Coimbatore on August 26.
The first public meeting in Kerala on August 22 will be held at capital Thiruvananthapuram, which will be addressed by Polit Bureau member S Ramachandran Pillai while Mr Karat will speak in Ernakulam and Thrissur on August 25 and 26.
Mr Yechury will address a public meeting in Malappuram in Kerala on August 29 while CITU President M K Pandhe will speak in Alappuzha on August 28.
''More than a hundred meetings have been finalized so far to be addressed by various all-India leaders of the Party,'' said the CPI (M) Central Committee office.
The campaign will also focus on alternative economic policies and strengthening the public distribution system. The party also wants the government to resolve the immediate problems of the farmers and other sections of the working people while pursuing an independent foreign policy.
