AP polls: Cong continues to win, TDP jumps back

Hyderabad, Jul 5: Continuing its winning streak, the ruling Congress so far won 15 Zilla Parishads across the three regions of Andhra Pradesh even as the TDP gained two Parishads in Telangana with the Congress poll ally TRS putting up a dismal performance in the two-phase Panchayati raj polls.

The Congress has won a majority in Zilla Parishads in Chittoor, East Godavari, Guntur, Kadappa, Krishna, Kurnool, Mahboobnagar, Nalgonda, Nellore, Nizamabad, Praksasam, Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and West Godavari, while the TDP secured majority in Rangareddy and Adilabad districts. It is leading in Anantapur district.

It was neck and neck in Khammam, where the TDP-CPI(M) combine and the Congress with its allies CPI and TRS, got 21 ZPTC seats each so far.

In Kadappa, the home district of Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, the Congress so far bagged 43 ZPTC seats as against just one by the TDP, as the State Election Commission announced the results 45 of the 50 ZPTC seats.

The Congress has won 599 of 953 ZPTC seats declared so far by the SEC and 7097 of the 13,965 MPTC seats while the TDP got 286 ZPTC and 5414 MPTC seats.

The CPI(M) was successful in 312 MPTCs, followed by CPI 237, TRS 261, BJP 125 and BSP 28, the results of which were declared so far.

As many as 479 independents were successful in the MPTC polls.
