Hyderabad, Jul 4: While the ruling Congress surged ahead across the three regions of Andhra Pradesh, the opposition Telugu Desam Party(TDP) made some gains at the cost of separatist TRS as counting of votes polled in the violence-marred two-phase elections to Panchayatraj Bodies progressed today.

The Congress bagged 11 of the 1097 ZPTC seats and 425 of the 16133 MPTC seats, while the TDP got one ZPTC and 70 MPTC seats, the results of which were declared by the State Election Commission.

The counting trends suggested that while the Congress was holding its ground across the three regions of the state, the TDP benefitted at the expense of the fledgling TRS in Telangana.

In the MPTC polls, the Congress bagged 144 seats in Kadapa, 72 in Anantapur and 33 in Chittoor, while the TDP got 11 in Kurnool, 14 in Rangareddy and 31 in Anantapur.

A report from Chittoor said the Congress had secured 116 MPTC seats while the TDP gained 100 seat. The Congress had unanimously elected 27 MPTC, tdp eight, while the CPI(M) and BJP won two each.
