Angered by noise, man shoots at French soccer fans
PARIS, July 2 (Reuters) A man angry about loud, jubilant French soccer fans opened fire on a crowd celebrating France's World Cup victory against Brazil, injuring two people before being shot dead by police.
Police said the man seemed to have been drunk. He was shot after he threatened officers with a sabre and died on the scene.
Angered by the noise following France's quarter-final victory yesterday, the man left his house and opened fire on a crowd in the southern village of Cap d'Ail near Monaco, police said today.
One woman was seriously injured and treated in hospital.
Millions of people took to the streets across France yesterday to celebrate their team's victory. Police in Paris arrested 69 people as troublemakers smashed shop windows and set two cars ablaze during mostly peaceful celebrations.
