Gopalaswami takes charge as new CEC

New Delhi, June 30: N Gopalaswami, the senior most Election Commissioner, took over the new role of Chief Election Commissioner with immediate effect at a simple function held here today.

S Y Quresh,i the Secretary, Youth Affairs and Sports who was appointed as one of the Election Commissioner yesterday, also took charge of his new responsibilities.

Later talking to newsmen here, Mr Qureshi said he would try his best to uphold the dignity of this institution and further said he would fulfill his responsibilities with total integrity.
