OoP issue: Delhi BJP demand Sheila's resignation
New Delhi, Jun 16: Delhi BJP today demanded the immediate resignation of state Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and called for fresh elections in light of the Election Commission issuing notices to 19 MLAs allegedly occupying offices of profit.
Ms Dikshit has no moral or Constitutional right to continue, BJP Delhi Pradesh President Harsh Vardhan said in a statement.
The Union Home Ministry did not have the courage to send the Delhi MLA Disqualification Act 2006, recently passed by the state Assembly for assent of the President in view of his refusal to sign a similar bill passed by the Parliament, it said.
Meanwhile, refusing to grant more time to the 19 city Congress MLAs, the EC had asked them file their reply by June 21, failing which the Commission would pass an ex-parte decision.
Before the EC annulled their membership, the MLAs should themselves resign with dignity, the statement said.
