OoP case: EC grants Amar Singh 2 weeks' time
New Delhi, June 16: Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh was today granted two weeks' time by the Election Commission to reply to its notice issued to him on a complaint challenging his Rajya Sabha membership on the ground that he was holding an office of profit.
Mr Singh, who had to personally appear before the Commission today, could not do so as he had already left for abroad yesterday.
He was represented by his lawyer Pradeep Rai, who told reporters after the hearing that their request for being given two weeks time and a copy of the complaint was granted.
The petition against Mr Singh, who is the chairman of the UP Development Council, was filed by one JN Shukla from Lucknow.
Earlier, his party MP Jaya Bachhan had lost her Rajya Sabha membership for holding an office of profit. She has, however, been re-elected.
