Rahul Mahajan case: Sahil's residence searched

Srinagar, June 9 : A team of Delhi Police today conducted searches at the residence of Sahil Zaroo, one of the accused in Rahul Mahajan drug abuse case, here this morning.

They said the team, assisted by the Jammu and Kashmir Police, conducted the searches in his residence at posh Nigeen area here.

The sources said the Delhi Police team was looking for Sahil's clothes he was wearing to the night party at late BJP leader Pramod Mahajan's official residence at 7, Safdarjung Road in New Delhi on June 1.

Sahil was allegedly present at the ''champagne and drug party'' which resulted in the hospitalisation of Rahul Mahajan and death of the late BJP leader's key aide Bibek Moitra.

The sources said the team also searched for Sahil's mobile phone from which he allegedly made several calls to a Nigerian drug peddler identified. Sahil was alleged to have brought the drugs (Heroin and Cocaine) to the party.

He had surrendered before the police at the office of a private television channel here on June 3.

On June 4, a Delhi court had sent Sahil to the police custody till June 12.

Sahil's father Ghulam Ahmed Zaroo had earlier said a team of Delhi Police raided his Nigeen residence shortly before Sahil surrendered here on June 3. ''The police found nothing objectionable and later certified that no incriminating documents or articles banned under the law were found,'' he said in an interview to a private television channel.

Zaroo claimed that his son was ''innocent and falsely implicated'' in the case, registered under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Prevention) Act.

Zaroo also claimed that he, too, was detained by the police for two days for questioning. He alleged that Sahil was forced by the Delhi Police to sign some documents, but his son refused.

Sahil was also wanted by the Mumbai police in connection with a case there.

Sahil, who owns a shop in Hilton Towers hotel in Mumbai, has a case registered against him for selling furs made out of banned animal skins.

He had applied for anticipatory bail in that case registered at the Marine Lines police station.
