Mahajan issue: Case against evidence destruction

New Delhi, Jun 3: Delhi Police investigating late BJP leader Pramod Mahajan's son Rahul taking seriously ill and the death of his Secretary Bibek Moitra has registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act as well as Indian Penal Code for destruction of evidence.

An FIR had been registered according to initial information, which was that drugs had been consumed at the 'party', where Rahul, Bibek and four others were present, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Manish Agarwal said this evening.

Case of destruction of evidence was also registered as the 'scene of crime' had been changed and among other things, the champagne bottle and glasses used had been shifted from the scene, he added.

Mr Agarwal also said Moitra's cause of death was still not known.

He, however, refused to indicate anything further in the matter, saying the investigations were on and all angles were being examined.

He also refused to comment on hospital test reports that did not confirm whether Rahul had drugs, or on the allegations of conspiracy to poison Rahul and Bibek made by Pramod Mahajan's brother-in-law and senior BJP leader Gopinath Munde.

The ADCP said Delhi Police was in touch with the Jammu and Kashmir police for getting Sahil Zaroo, one of the four who were partying at Pramod Mahajan's official residence in Central Delhi on June 1, to the national capital from Srinagar.

Forensic reports on stomach fluid samples to test presence of any poison to establish the nature of 'white powder' collected from the house were still awaited.

Earlier today, Mr Agarwal had said the city police had not arrested anyone so far in connection with the case though it was interrogating the three men -- Rahul, Tishay and Karan -- who surrendered late last night and who along with Sahil had spent the night together on June 1.

They were being questioned to establish the facts and build the correct sequence of events, he added.

The police had already quizzed their servants present in the house that night.
