PM, Sonia condole boat capsize in Kashmir
Srinagar, May 31: Prime Minster Manmohan Singh, UPA Chairperson and Congress President Sonia Gandhi besides other central leaders today conveyed to Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad their deep sorrow and sympathy over the boat capsize in which several school children drowned in Wullar Lake yesterday.
Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Home Minister Shivraj Patil and other central leaders also condoled the deaths.
In their separate communications, the leaders expressed solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir, particularly the bereaved families.
This was stated by Mr Azad while announcing postponement of the Congress Working Committee session here today as a mark of respect to the school children who lost their lives in the tragedy.
He directed that the judicial probe would be completed within one month by a sitting judge.
The Chief Minister said he has given special direction to the authorities concerned for making efforts to recover the bodies and provide all kind of relief and assistance to the bereaved families.
