Sensex plunges 443 pts; recovers partially by noon
Mumbai, May 16: BSE Sensex dipped 443 points in the mid-morning session to day's low of 11,378.96 point, almost a repeat of what happened yesterday but managed to recover very soon and traded only 140.69 points down at 11,681.51 point at 1438 hrs.
Earlier, the Bombay Stock Exchange's (BSE) sensitive index (Sensex) opened 39 points lower at 11,861 points as compared to the last close of 11,822 and dipped 170 points to a low of 11,652 points before recovering partially.
The National Stock Exchange (NSE) S&P CNX Nifty index opened unchanged at 3,502.95 point but dipped to a low of 3,382.40 points in the mid-morning session.
The NSE Nifty index traded 32 points lower at 3,473.65 points at 1445 hrs as compared to the last close of 3,502.95 points.
Smallcap scrips were losing badly with 3.37 per cent dip on the BSE smallcap index and BSE Midcap index was down by 2.73 per cent.
Metal scrips continued to bleed with BSE Metal index down by 3.62 per cent, BSE Capital Goods index was down by 3.43 per cent and BSE Consumer Durable index was down by 2.98 per cent; BSE Bankex too went down by 2.27 per cent.
The top losers on the Sensex were Tata Power, Tata Steel, Larsen&Toubro, Hero Honda, Bharti Tele.,Cipla, BHEL, Hindalco, Reliance Energy and HDFC.
The top gainers on the 30 share Sensex were Gujarat Ambuja, ACC, Dr Reddy's Lab., Hindustan Lever, ITC and Tata Motors.
