Subramanian Swamy seeks written apology from Sonia
Chennai, Apr 22: Janata Party President Subramanian Swamy, who was manhandled, allegedly by Congressmen at Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh yesterday, demanded a written apology from Congress President Sonia Gandhi for the incident.
He said 35 Congressmen tried to forcibly enter his Guest House suite in Lucknow later in the evening by breaking down the doors, but were chased away by his party workers and District Magistrate.
A suo motu FIR had been filed by the UP Government, he added.
'If Ms Gandhi does not apologise in writing for the Congress mob's murderous attack on me and the Government machinery does not do its statutory duty of prosecuting them, I shall be obliged to retaliate within the democratic framework and the Hindu religious code of 'Apat Dharma' (morality in a crisis),' he said.
Meanwhile, in a letter to the Election Commission, Mr Swamy said the present atmosphere in Rae Bareli was not conducive for a free and fair poll. The by-poll should be cancelled and a fresh notification should be issued for mid-June, he urged.
He said the Returning Officer of Rae Bareli should be replaced and future poll should be conducted with the help of the CRPF.
