Congmen force Subramanian Swamy to flee Rae Bareli
Lucknow, Apr 21: Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy today allegedly had to flee from Rae Bareli after some Congressmen attacked his vehicle near the Collectorate, where he was going to file objections on the nomination papers of AICC president Sonia Gandhi.
Dr Swamy, had to return to Lucknow without making his representation to the Returning Officer (RO) and District Magistrate Jitendra Kumar, demanding rejection of nomination papers of Ms Gandhi for giving false declaration in her affadavit.
''Congress supporters tried to lynch me by pulling me out of the car... I had a miraculous escape,'' he told UNI.
However, reacting to the alleged incident. Ms Gandhi's poll manager and Amethi MP son Rahul Gandhi contradicted the allegations of the Janata Party president saying nothing like that happened in Rae Bareli.
''Even if such an incident occured and Dr Swamy was heckled, it is unfortunate and condemnable'' Rahul Gandhi said.
Dr Swamy, said he would be meeting the Chief Election Commissioner this evening to lodge his protest, as the scrutiny of nominations done by the RO was against the norms as his objections were not taken into account.
'' If the EC did not take congizance of my petition, then I would be forced to move court against Sonia's nominations'', he said.
