Mahajan's brother rules out property dispute

Aurangabad (Maharashtra), Apr 22: Prakash Mahajan, younger brother of critically-wounded senior BJP leader Pramod Mahajan, today ruled out possibility of any property or family dispute behind the attack on his elder brother by their youngest sibling Pravin in Mumbai this morning.

Stunned by the incident, Prakash, 52, said Pramod has always been like a father to their family comprising of three brothers and two sisters, one of whom is married to Maharashtra BJP leader Gopinath Munde, and another to a teacher.

Prakash, a civil contractor-turned-agriculturist settled here, said Pramod had taken Pravin with him to Mumbai in 1978 to provide him college education. Till then the family was staying together at Ambejogai village in Beed district.

''I was shocked when I came to know from Pramod's daughter this morning,'' he said when asked how he came to know about the incident.

On report about a dispute between the two brothers over a plot of land owned by Pramod Mahajan at their native Ambejogai, Prakash said since the plot is the individual property of Pramod there was never any dispute about it.

Prakash, who had recently joined Maharashtra Nav Nirman Sena, a new political outfit floated by Raj Thackeray, estranged nephew of Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray, said neither he nor Pravin had ever participated in Pramod's political activities. Pravin's involvement have had always been limited to attending a few election rallies of Pramod Mahajan, Prakash said.

Prakash, who left for Mumbai by 1800 hrs flight, said he would be able to say further on the incident only after meeting family members in Mumbai.

Prakash said he had spoken to Pravin two days ago, but the latter never raised any issue indicating any trouble with Pramod.

Pravin's son had been with him a few days, Prakash said, adding '' ours is a well-knit family ''.

When UNI correspondent visited the palatial residence of Prakash here, his family members, including son Akash, daughter and wife, were engrossed in monitoring TV news to get latest update on Pramod's condition.
