BJP fields Vinay Katiyar from Rae Bareli
Varanasi, Apr 18: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today decided to put up UP party unit chief Vinay Katiyar against Congress President Sonia Gandhi for the May 8 Rae Bareli Lok Sabha byelection.
This decision was taken at a high level meeting presided over by party President Rajnath Singh at Varanasi, party sources said.
The meeting was attended, among others, by Mr Kesari Nath Tripathi, Mr Vinay Katiyar and Mr Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi.
Sources said the meeting also discussed the candidature of senior BJP leader Kalraj Mishra and Mr Siddarth Singh, a relative of late Lal Bahadur Shastri and presently convener of BJP media cell.
However, the meeting finally decided in favour of Mr Katiyar.
