Cong asks for immediate tabling of Banerjee report
New Delhi, Mar 07: The Congress has demanded immediate tablilng of the U C Banerjee Commission report on Godhra in Parliament, saying there was no restriction in discussing in the House a matter of extreme public importance.
The report was a clear vindication of the Congress stand that the Godhra mishap was an accident and not the result of a conspiracy, party spokesman Abhishek Singhvi said. ''Such report must be tabled immediately, '' he added. ''We believe that the public has a right to share the details of the findings of the report.
There should be no further delay in tabling the report in Parliament as a three-day delay in the matter has already taken place,'' he said briefing media persons here. Mr Singhvi expressed the view that placing the report and discussing it in Parliament was beyond the judicial purview. There was no injunction in tabling the report and discussing it. ''There is no hitch in disclosure and discussion of the report.''
