BJP burn effigies of Banerjee, 18 leaders arrested
Vadodara, Mar 07: Protesting against the U C Banerjee commission's report on Godhra train fire, the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) yesterday (Mar 06, 2006) staged demonstrations across the district and demanded Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav's resignation for allegedly making a 'mockery' of the train carnage.
In Vadodara city, police took 18 leaders of the party, including city BJP president Sabdasaran Brahmabhatt, and former Mayors Bhartiban Vyas and Naran Patel, into custody for violating prohibitory orders at the Gandhi Nagar Gruh.
Besides submitting a memorandum to the District Collector, the party took out a procession on the main thoroughfares of the city and burnt an effigy of Justice Banerjee for describing the Godhra train fire as an accident.
Party sources said, similar protest demonstrations against Lalu Yadav and Justice Banerjee were held and their effigies burnt in all 12 talukas of the district.
