Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps says its air defence units shot down an unidentified “enemy” reconnaissance drone over the Strait of Hormuz on May 6. State-linked Fars News Agency released footage allegedly showing the aircraft being tracked before a surface-to-air missile destroyed it mid-air. According to the IRGC, debris from the drone fell into waters near Iranian-approved shipping lanes. Commanders described the aircraft as a “hostile spy drone” flying inside a sensitive military zone during a period of heightened regional tensions after recent attacks on the UAE and commercial vessels. No country has officially claimed ownership of the drone so far.
