Kerala Weather Update: Moderate Rain Expected In These 10 Districts On Friday
Several districts in Kerala are predicted to get moderate rainfall on Friday. Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, and Malappuram will get rains, the Kerala Disaster Management Authority said. However, the remaining districts will get light rainfall.
The statement said, "Moderate rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, and Malappuram districts, while light rainfall is likely at one or two places in all other districts of Kerala."

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced on X that a previously identified well-marked low-pressure system situated over the central Bay of Bengal has strengthened into a depression as of 5:30 am today.
"Likely to move northeastwards and intensify further into a cyclone over east-central BoB by the 25 morning. Subsequently, it would move nearly northwards, intensify into a severe cyclone by 25 evening," IMD said.
The IMD further added, "Continuing to move nearly northward, it is very likely to cross the Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal coasts between Sagar Island and Khepupara around midnight on May 26 as a severe cyclonic storm."
On the other hand, Thiruvananthapuram has been getting relentless heavy rainfall for the past few days, resulting in substantial rises in local river levels and triggering concerns of flooding. Since May 18, continuous downpours have caused waterlogging issues in the city.
Earlier, the India Meteorological Department had issued a red alert for heavy rains in Kerala's Ernakulam and Thrissur districts, while an orange alert was issued for Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Wayanad districts.
The Kerala Chief Minister's office has cautioned residents against venturing into the sea due to expected strong winds and adverse weather conditions. People are urged to remain vigilant against hazards such as flash floods, urban waterlogging, and landslides. Those residing in vulnerable housing should be particularly prepared to evacuate if necessary.
Heavy rains pose various risks, including flash floods, urban waterlogging, and landslides. Residents, especially those in poorly constructed or structurally weak homes, should exercise caution. In case of imminent danger, it is essential to contact authorities and move to safer locations.
