Kerala Local Body Election 2025 Date: When Will The Polling Be Held In Southern State?

The Kerala local elections will take place in two phases on December 9 and 11, 2023, determining local governance structures. Voter identification is essential, and cooperation is requested for a smooth electoral process.

Kerala State Election Commissioner A Shajahan on Monday announced the dates for the local body elections in the state.

The polling for the local elections will be held in two phases. The first phase will occur on December 9 in districts from Thiruvananthapuram to Ernakulam. The second phase is set for December 11 in the remaining districts. Vote counting will take place on December 13, revealing the governing bodies of local self-governments.

Kerala State Election Commissioner A Shajahan said, "In Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, and Ernakulam districts, the elections will be held on December 9, 2025. In Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts, the elections will be held on December 11, 2025. Counting of votes will be held on December 13, 2025, from 8 AM onwards."

Polling Details and Regulations

Polling stations will open at 7 AM and close at 6 PM. The Election Commission has assured that all polling booths will be equipped with necessary facilities. Voter identification can be done using an election identity card, passport, PAN card, driving licence, SSLC book or photo-attached passbooks from major banks.

The Model Code of Conduct is now active across Kerala. It also applies to areas like Mattannur Municipality where elections are not currently being held. The Election Commission has urged everyone to cooperate for a smooth voting process.

Local Governance Structure

Kerala comprises 941 gram panchayats and six corporations. Additionally, there are 87 municipalities along with 14 district panchayats and 152 block panchayats. These local bodies play a crucial role in governance at the grassroots level.

The Election Commission has requested public cooperation to ensure a peaceful and orderly electoral process. This appeal aims to facilitate a comfortable voting experience for all participants involved.

The upcoming elections are significant as they determine the leadership of various local self-governing institutions across Kerala. The results on December 13 will reveal which parties or coalitions will govern these bodies for the next term.
