Hema Committee Report: Mohanlal Resigns as AMMA President; Executive Committee Dissolved
Amid uproar over the Hema Committee rumour, Mollywood superstar Mohanlal resigned on Tuesday as the president of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA). In a significant development, all 17 executive committee members have also stepped down, leading to the dissolution of the committee.
The executive members who resigned include Jagadish, Jayan Cherthala, Baburaj, Unni Mukundan, Kalabhavan Shajon, Suraj Venjarammoodu, Joy Mathew, Suresh Krishna, Tini Tom, Ananya, Vinu Mohan, Tovino Thomas, Sarayu Mohan, Ansiba Hassan, and Jomol.

In a statement, AMMA acknowledged the seriousness of the situation: "In light of the allegations made by some actors against certain committee members, AMMA has decided to dissolve the executive committee, taking moral responsibility. A new committee will be formed after an election within two months. We hope that a capable leadership will soon take charge to revamp and strengthen the association. We are thankful to everyone who pointed out our errors."
This comes shortly after Siddique, the general secretary of AMMA, submitted his resignation on Sunday following sexual assault allegations made against him by an actress on August 24. Siddique confirmed his decision, stating, "Yes, I have tendered my official resignation to the president of the organization, Mohanlal. Since there were allegations against me, I have decided not to continue in the post and have resigned."
It all started after the release of the Justice Hema Committee report, which revealed alarming instances of harassment and sexual exploitation faced by women in the Malayalam film industry. With a few actors coming forward with allegations of sexual assault and rape, Mollywood is now under heavy scrutiny.
Meanwhile, Asha Sharath has responded to the speculations which claimed that Siddique had misbehaved with her during the shooting of 'Drishyam'. In a statement, she said, "I became aware of some rumours that are being circulated, stating that Siddique misbehaved with me during the filming of Drishyam. Siddique is a respected colleague and a good friend of mine in the artistic field. I have never encountered any inappropriate behaviour, words, or actions from him."
She also appealed people not to spread baseless allegations.
