August 7 Holiday In Kerala: Will Schools, Colleges Remain Open In Rain Affected Regions?

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued severe weather warnings for multiple districts in Kerala, raising concerns over possible disruptions, including school closures.

Red Alert in North Kerala

The IMD has issued a red alert for Kannur and Kasaragod today, forecasting over 204 mm of rainfall within 24 hours. As a precaution, district administrations have already ordered a holiday for schools and colleges in these regions. An orange alert is in place for Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Wayanad, where isolated heavy rains may trigger flooding and landslides.

Yellow Alert Extends to Central Districts

A yellow alert has been issued for Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Palakkad on Wednesday, with the warning extending to Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod on Thursday. While no blanket holiday has been declared yet, district administrations are closely monitoring the situation and may announce closures if conditions worsen overnight.

Will Schools Open on Thursday?

While schools in Kasaragod, Kannur, and Thrissur remained closed on Wednesday due to the downpour, authorities are yet to announce a decision on whether educational institutions will remain shut on Thursday.

As of now, no statewide holiday has been declared for Thursday. However, parents and students in red and orange alert districts should stay alert for late-night announcements.
