35-Year-Old Kerala Woman Struck By Lightning While Breastfeeding Baby, Suffers Hearing Loss

In a bizarre incident, a woman was struck by lightning while breastfeeding her baby inside their home in the Kalparambu area of this district two days ago.

The 35-year-old woman and her approximately eight-month-old baby were forcefully separated due to the lightning strike, which also resulted in the woman experiencing a loss of hearing in her left ear, as reported by a member of the Poomangalam Grama Panchayat.

Additionally, the woman sustained minor burns on her back and neck during the incident that transpired on Monday. However, the baby remained unharmed.

In addition to the personal injuries, the lightning strike also inflicted damage to the house's wiring and various electronic appliances, according to the same source.

The panchayat member speculated that the woman's proximity to the wall while feeding the baby might have contributed to their vulnerability to the lightning strike.
