One Meta employee who survived the 4 am cuts said a hardworking teammate was suddenly dismissed, adding, "She gave it her all".

Meta layoffs link severance and restructuring around AI

Business Insider reported that affected US staff will receive a severance package with several elements. Workers are due 16 weeks of base pay, plus an extra two weeks of salary for every full year of continuous service. The package is meant to cushion the sudden job loss for employees.

US-based employees who lose their jobs will also receive extended healthcare support. Meta plans to fund medical coverage for 18 months for impacted staff and their families. Workers outside the US are expected to get similar severance structures, though the final terms will depend on individual countries’ labour rules and company policies.

In an internal memo, Meta HR chief Janelle Gale outlined changes to the organisation chart. Gale said Meta intends to cut layers of management and simplify reporting lines. "We're now at the stage where many orgs can operate with a flatter structure with smaller teams of pods/cohorts that can move faster and with more ownership," Gale wrote.

The current Meta layoffs are expected to fall most heavily on engineering and product teams. Reports suggest that more job cuts could still follow later this year as the reshuffle continues. The company is aligning staff numbers and roles with its long-term plans for AI projects and digital platforms.
