WPL Serves as a Vital Supply Chain for Indian Women's Cricket, Says Coach Amol Muzumdar
India's head coach, Amol Muzumdar, expressed confidence in the Women's Premier League (WPL) as a crucial talent pool for the national team. He believes India is a strong contender in the ongoing T20 World Cup in the UAE. India will face New Zealand in their opening match on Friday. Muzumdar highlighted the WPL's success and its role in shaping players for the national squad.

The WPL has been instrumental in nurturing talent for India's World Cup team. Muzumdar acknowledged the league's impact while also valuing first-class cricket back home. He stated, "Some of the players that have come into the Indian squad here at the World Cup, I think are products of WPL as well." The league has provided a solid foundation for discovering new players.
Strong Team Dynamics and Selection
Muzumdar described having a talented squad as a "good headache." With players like Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana, he enjoys experimenting with different combinations to find the best lineup. "We do have a lot of talent in the team," he said, emphasizing their readiness for the upcoming match.
The coach praised the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and its head, VVS Laxman, for their role in building a robust team. "It's been a collective effort," Muzumdar noted, highlighting the support from Laxman and collaboration with coaches during India A's tour to Australia. This teamwork strengthens India's bench strength.
Focus on Bowling Options
Muzumdar is keen on developing a sixth bowling option within the team. He stressed the importance of having multiple bowlers among the top six players. "We've paid a lot of attention to the sixth bowling option," he said, aiming to convert practice efforts into match performances.
Harmanpreet Kaur's bowling capabilities were also discussed. Although she hasn't bowled recently, Muzumdar mentioned her experience and potential contribution during matches. "Harman hasn't bowled, but I think she bowled in the second T20 warm-ups," he added.
Overall, Muzumdar is optimistic about India's prospects in the T20 World Cup. The combination of WPL talent and strategic planning positions India as a formidable team in this tournament.
