Star Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat received a grand welcome at Delhi Airport on her arrival from Paris. She was welcomed by her family members, fellow wrestlers Bajrang Punia, and Sakshee Malikkh, and a sea of fans in the capital. Congress leader Deependra Hooda was also present at the airport to welcome the Paris Olympics star.

Unfortunately, Vinesh Phogat missed a gold medal by inches as she got disqualified from the 50 kg event after she was found 100 gms overweight.

Today, when Vinesh Phogat saw fans waiting outside the airport for her, she got emotional. The scene looked like fans were welcoming a medal winner. However, she emerged as a hero for Indians as she defeated Pan American Games winner Yusneylis Guzman of Cuba in the semi-finals.

If Vinesh Phogat had played in the finals, she would have become the first Indian women wrestler to enter the wrestling finals at the Olympics.

Speaking to the media, Vinesh Phogat's brother, Harinder Singh, said, "Wrestling and sports lovers of the nation have arrived at the airport to welcome her...People from all sections all coming forward to encourage her. Preparations are underway in her native village to welcome her...She couldn't win the medal but we will work hard and surely win the Olympic gold medal."

She had also appealed against her disqualification, however, the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) junked her plea and stated the disqualification as per Olympics rules.

Earlier, PM Modi had called Vinesh Phogat to console after her disqualification, which was a shocker for every Indian sports lover. PM Modi told her that she is a real hero and performed like a gold medal winner, which made entire nation proud at the world level.
