Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has instructed officials to draft a new sports policy aimed at gaining international recognition for Telangana. This policy will focus on training athletes to compete globally. The chief minister emphasised setting goals with the 2036 Olympic Games in mind, according to an official statement.

New Sports Policy for Telangana Ahead of Olympics

During a meeting at the Secretariat, Reddy reviewed the draft sports policy and reiterated the government's commitment to nurturing young talent across various sports. The discussion also included examining sports policies from other nations. The CM stressed adopting best practices to meet the government's objectives by integrating them into the new policy.

Focus on Sports University and Training

The proposed Young India Physical Education and Sports University at Gachibowli Sports Stadium was a key topic. Reddy suggested it should operate under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. He advised forming a special board with a chairman to manage it as an autonomous entity.

The university plans to offer around 13 courses and 14 sports training programmes. Officials were tasked with recruiting renowned coaches from both India and abroad. Additionally, they were encouraged to establish Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with other universities for collaboration.

The chief minister's directives aim to create a robust infrastructure for sports in Telangana. By focusing on international standards, the state hopes to produce world-class athletes who can excel in global competitions.

Reddy's vision includes not only developing athletes but also enhancing the state's reputation in the sports arena. The emphasis on international cooperation and expertise highlights the commitment to achieving these goals.

This initiative reflects Telangana's dedication to fostering sports talent and creating opportunities for young athletes. By aligning with global practices, the state aims to make significant strides in the field of sports.
