Sunil Gavaskar Shuts Down Pitch Conspiracy Theories In India vs NZ World Cup Match
Legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar dismisses conspiracy theories surrounding the pitch alteration in the World Cup semifinal between India and New Zealand.
The legendary Sunil Gavaskar has slammed conspiracy theories surrounding the pitch for the World Cup semi-final between India and New Zealand, urging critics to "shut up" and stop taking potshots at the hosts.
Gavaskar Slams Conspiracy Theories
India reached the final with a convincing 70-run win over New Zealand in Mumbai. However, hours before the highly anticipated semi-final at the Wankhede Stadium, reports emerged that the Indian cricket team management had requested a slow pitch for the match.

According to a report, a fresh pitch was initially planned for the first semi-final, but later a used surface was used to assist the home team's spinners, leading to pitch alteration.
However, Gavaskar rubbished such claims, stating that the pitch was the same for both teams and that critics should stop making excuses.
ICC Clarifies Pitch Change
The International Cricket Council (ICC) later clarified that the independent pitch consultant, Andy Atkinson, was taken into confidence before the change of surface.
The ICC stated that changes to planned pitch rotations are common towards the end of a long tournament and that this particular change was made on the recommendation of the venue curator in conjunction with the host.
The ICC also confirmed that Atkinson was aware of the change and saw no reason to believe that the pitch would not play well.
Reactions from Cricketers
While some, like former England skipper Michael Vaughan, felt that a fresh pitch should have been used for the semi-final, others, such as Australian captain Pat Cummins, did not read too much into the pitch controversy.
In the end, it was India's bowlers, led by Mohammed Shami's spectacular seven-wicket haul, who dismissed New Zealand for 327 in 48.1 overs, securing India's place in the World Cup final for the first time in 12 years.
The pitch controversy that erupted ahead of the India vs New Zealand semi-final has been put to rest, with the ICC clarifying that the change in surface was made in accordance with established procedures.
As India gears up for the final against England, the focus will now shift to the cricket itself, with both teams aiming to lift the coveted World Cup trophy.
