Asalanka expressed disappointment over certain aspects of the game. "In that moment, I think our heart was in our mouths. Few areas I am really disappointed about — the first three overs when we were bowling and then the 16th over when we lost a couple of wickets including mine," he stated post-match. He emphasised the need for improvement, noting that such inconsistencies cannot persist.
Hong Kong's Missed Opportunities
Hong Kong captain Yasim Murtaza praised his team's effort but lamented missed chances in the field. "I am really proud of the way the boys stood up today, especially in the batting. Nizakat and Anshy, their partnership was crucial. We missed a few chances, but in the end, the way the bowlers and batters played, very proud of them," Murtaza commented.
Murtaza highlighted that Hong Kong achieved their target score but acknowledged that dropped catches were costly. "We wanted 150-160, so got what we wanted. We dropped a few catches and that cost us the game," he added. Despite the loss, he found positivity in playing on such a significant stage.
Asalanka also reflected on Sri Lanka's approach to chasing 150 runs. He felt confident due to favourable pitch conditions but credited Hong Kong's strong batting performance and criticised Sri Lanka's poor bowling in the initial overs. "Felt confident because the pitch was looking good. Credit goes to them, they batted really well and we bowled badly in the first three overs," Asalanka remarked.
The match highlighted areas for improvement for both teams. While Sri Lanka needs to address their inconsistencies, Hong Kong can build on their experience at this level. Both captains acknowledged these aspects as they look forward to future matches and opportunities for growth.
