Spain Beats France to Reach Euro 2024 Final, Yamal Sets Record

Spain secured a spot in the European Championship final by defeating France 2-1 on Tuesday. Lamine Yamal, aged 16, became the youngest scorer at a major tournament. France initially led with Randal Kolo Muani's header from a Kylian Mbappé cross. Yamal equalised in the 21st minute, and Dani Olmo scored the decisive goal four minutes later.

Spain into Euro 2024 Final, Yamal Historic Goal

Spain will face either England or the Netherlands in the final on Sunday in Berlin. They play each other in Dortmund on Wednesday. "We knew they were a great team, and they proved it again tonight," said France coach Didier Deschamps. "Even though we were fortunate to open the scoring, Spain made things difficult for us."

Mbappé's Impact Without Mask

There was surprise when Mbappé played without his mask, which he had been wearing since breaking his nose in France's opening group game at Euro 2024. Complaining that the mask hindered him, he ditched it and immediately assisted Kolo Muani's goal with a cross in the ninth minute.

This marked France's first non-penalty or own-goal at Euro 2024. Despite their strong defence, allowing only one goal from Poland's Robert Lewandowski in the group stage, they couldn't stop Yamal's stunning equaliser.

Yamal's Historic Goal

Yamal curled the ball past Mike Maignan from 25 yards, hitting the left post to become the youngest player to score at a men's European Championship or World Cup. Spain then took control four minutes later when Olmo's shot was deflected into the net by France defender Jules Koundé.

Initially ruled an own-goal by UEFA, it was later credited to Olmo. "We are very close, just one more step to go," Olmo said. "It is incredible what the team is doing. We deserve to be in the final, one step from glory."

France's Second-Half Struggles

France dominated possession in the second half but failed to capitalise. Théo Hernández missed a good chance late on, and Mbappé also missed with four minutes remaining. Spain nearly extended their lead as another powerful strike from Yamal narrowly missed.

"I just took the ball and wanted to put it right there," Yamal said about his goal. "I am very happy. I do not try to think about it too much, just enjoy myself and help the team."

Deschamps acknowledged Spain's superiority: "They were superior in terms of control and technique. The team that gave the best impression was Spain. So they deserve to win tonight."

Spain aims for a record fourth European Championship title. Their performance against France showcased their skill and determination.

The match highlighted key moments like Mbappé's assist and Yamal's historic goal, setting up an exciting final against either England or the Netherlands.

The final promises to be a thrilling encounter as Spain seeks another European Championship triumph.
