Sanju Samson on IPL: Focus on Process Over Ambition After Recent Wins
Rajasthan Royals (RR) achieved their fifth victory in six games this Indian Premier League (IPL) season, yet captain Sanju Samson remains cautious, drawing from past experiences to avoid complacency. The team narrowly defeated Punjab Kings by three wickets, solidifying their lead in the points table. Samson emphasized the unpredictable nature of cricket and the importance of focusing on the process rather than outcomes.

Despite a modest target of 148 set by Punjab Kings, RR faced challenges in reaching it, securing the win only in the penultimate ball of the match. Samson acknowledged the tension within the team, especially noting the history of close finishes in games against Punjab. Shimron Hetmyer's crucial 27 not out off 10 balls was pivotal for RR's victory, with Samson praising Hetmyer's consistent performance and confidence over the years.
With Jos Buttler recovering from an injury, RR introduced debutant Tanush Kotian as an opener alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal. Kotian, who had a notable Ranji Trophy season, scored 24 off 31 balls. Samson expressed his interest in Kotian's potential and justified the decision to experiment with the batting order in Buttler's absence. He also expressed satisfaction with Jaiswal's performance and hoped for a significant contribution from him in upcoming matches.
On the opposing side, Punjab Kings' captain Sam Curran acknowledged his team's effort despite a slow start with the bat. He highlighted the competitive total and commended his team's bowling and fielding performance. Curran expressed disappointment over another narrow loss but remained optimistic about improving in future games.
Shimron Hetmyer, named Player of the Match, shared his thoughts on being a finisher, describing it as both a blessing and a curse. His contribution was crucial in leading RR to victory, underlining his role as a reliable finisher for his team.
This match underscored the competitive spirit of both teams and highlighted individual performances that made a significant impact. As the IPL progresses, Rajasthan Royals aim to maintain their lead while Punjab Kings look to bounce back stronger in their subsequent outings.
