Rohit Sharma Refutes Inzamam's Claims on Reverse Swing in T20 World Cup

India's captain Rohit Sharma has dismissed allegations made by former Pakistan skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq. Inzamam claimed that the Indian team tampered with the ball to achieve reverse swing during their T20 World Cup Super 8s match against Australia. India won the match by 24 runs, setting up a semifinal clash with England.

Rohit Denies Reverse Swing Claims

Accusations of Ball Tampering

Inzamam, speaking to a Pakistani news channel, accused Arshdeep Singh and the Indian team of manipulating the ball. He suggested that this helped Arshdeep generate reverse swing in his second spell. "When Arshdeep was bowling the 15th over, it was reverse swinging. Is that too early with the new ball? This means the ball was ready by the 12th-13th over, it was capable of reversing. It was reverse-swinging in the 15th. Umpires need to keep their eyes open," Inzamam stated.

Rohit Sharma's Response

Rohit addressed these accusations during a pre-match media interaction. He advised Inzamam to consider the playing conditions before making such claims. "What should I say now about this? You are playing in such hot sun, the wicket is so dry, the ball reverses automatically. It's happening for all the teams, not only ours. All the teams are reverse swinging. Sometimes, it's important to open your mind," Rohit said.

Match Highlights

India posted a total of 205 runs while batting first and then restricted Australia to 181/7. Australia needed 81 runs from eight overs with eight wickets in hand but faltered during Arshdeep's second spell. The left-arm pacer took two crucial wickets in the 16th and 18th overs, halting Australia's chase.

Inzamam's Further Comments

Inzamam continued his criticism by comparing the situation to how Pakistan bowlers would be treated under similar circumstances. "If Pakistan bowlers did this, there would have been hue and cry. We know how to reverse it really well. If Arshdeep can reverse it in the 15th, there's been some serious work done on the ball," he remarked.

Rohit also pointed out that different conditions affect how the ball behaves. "It's important to understand what conditions you're playing in. The match is not taking place in England or Australia," he added when responding to Inzamam's comments.

Inzamam further mentioned that if Jasprit Bumrah achieved reverse swing, it would be understandable due to his bowling action. "If Bumrah does it you can understand, his action is like that. When others with a specific action or speed do it, it means the ball has been prepared in a special way," he said.

The allegations have added an extra layer of tension ahead of India's semifinal clash against England. The focus now shifts to how both teams will perform under pressure in this crucial match.

India's victory over Australia has set high expectations for their upcoming games. The team will need to maintain their form and composure as they advance further into the tournament.

The controversy surrounding these accusations highlights the intense scrutiny teams face during major tournaments like the T20 World Cup. Both players and officials must navigate these challenges while focusing on their performance on the field.

As fans eagerly await the semifinal clash, all eyes will be on how India responds to both on-field challenges and off-field controversies.
