Rohit Sharma Stresses on Staying Calm for T20 WC Semifinal vs England
India's captain, Rohit Sharma, emphasised the importance of staying calm and simplifying strategies ahead of the T20 World Cup semifinal against England. He acknowledged that the team has struggled with a fear of failure in past ICC events. India has faced immense pressure from its vast fan base, which often affects player performance.

Focus on Conditions
Rohit highlighted that the team's approach on Thursday would be dictated by the conditions. He noted, "It all depends on the conditions that are there in front of us." He stressed the importance of being a smart cricket team and making decisions based on experience and situational demands.
Despite an unbeaten run in last year's ODI World Cup at home, India faltered under pressure in the final against Australia. In this tournament, India has performed well but remains cautious about overthinking. Rohit mentioned that overthinking can hinder decision-making on the field.
Maintaining Composure
During a media interaction, former teammate Ambati Rayudu asked Rohit about his legacy as captain compared to his predecessors. Rohit emphasised the need to stay cool and composed in high-pressure environments. He said, "That has worked for me over the years, staying calm and staying composed because I know that I have to make decisions on the field."
Rohit also acknowledged that Indian cricket is always under pressure, whether in bilateral series or ICC tournaments. He stressed the importance of maintaining calmness in the dressing room and other settings to help players cope with this pressure.
Team Dynamics
The skipper praised his team's camaraderie and mutual support. He stated, "We are playing well as a team, enjoying each other's company, enjoying each other's success as well." This positive atmosphere has helped India respond well under pressure during the tournament.
Rohit also mentioned that relying on individual instincts is crucial at this stage. He said, "So, it's time now to just rely on the individual instinct." The team has had enough discussions, and now it's about executing plans based on those instincts.
Satisfaction from Australia Win
Reflecting on India's win against Australia, Rohit found satisfaction in his team's confidence and execution. He said, "I think the confidence we played the game with... that confidence of bowlers executing their plans, batters going out there and doing their job." This confidence is vital in a format like T20.
Rohit also expressed personal satisfaction from his performance against Australia. He said he aimed to put pressure on bowlers and was pleased with his execution. "For me to do that was a great satisfaction at the end of the day," he added.
The Indian team knew they would play the semifinal in Guyana but Rohit dismissed any notion of it giving them an edge over England. He ended the interaction humorously by mentioning concerns about missing a charter flight if the game went late.
In conclusion, Rohit's approach focuses on staying calm and making smart decisions based on conditions and experience. The team aims to maintain its positive dynamics and rely on individual instincts to perform well under pressure.
