Who Is Swapnil Kusale, Secured Bronze at the Paris Olympics 2024?

A historic hat-trick of shooting medals for India in this edition of the Games was completed by Kusale's achievement, alongside those of fellow shooters Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh, marking the first time three shooting medals have been won by India in a single Olympic event.

At 28 years old, history was made by Kusale, becoming the only Olympic medalist in the men's 50m rifle 3 positions category, and this was accomplished in his debut Olympic appearance. Qualification for Paris was secured by Kusale just three months ago after the final Olympic trials at the MP State Shooting Academy in Bhopal.

Kusale overcame significant challenges leading up to the final. Narrow misses at the 2023 Shooting World Championships in Baku and the Asian Games in China, where fourth place was finished in both, were faced by Kusale, who struggled similarly in Paris.

Initially positioned in the middle of the pack-sixth after the kneeling stage and fifth after the prone stage surge forward in the standing position ultimately secured the bronze and overcame past disappointments. The final comprised 40 initial shots across kneeling, prone, and standing positions, followed by five elimination shots in the standing position.

Kusale's journey began with a tough start, placing seventh after his first shot, but recovery was achieved with strong subsequent scores. Kusale concluded the first kneeling series with a score of 50.8, tying for sixth place. An improved second kneeling series brought the total to 101.7, maintaining the sixth-place position.

The pride of Maharashtra was increased and new vitality and energy were injected into the state's sports sector by Swapnil's achievement, according to Pawar.
