OI Exclusive: Nikhat Will Secure Gold For India; Won’t Atop At Anything Less
Two-time World Champion Nikhat Zareen is ready to face China's Y. Wu in the 50 kg category, aiming for gold. With robust support from her family and coaches, Zareen's father is confident in her victory and technical prowess.
Two-time World Champion Nikhat Zareen is preparing to face China's top seed Y. Wu in the 50 kg category round of 16. At 28, she is seen as one of India's top medal contenders.
In an exclusive chat with OneIndia, Nikhat's father expressed gratitude to the coaches who prepared her for the Olympics.

Medal Prospects and Preparation
Mr. Jameel, Nikhat's father, stated, "There is one match between us and the Gold. Y. Wu is no match to Nikhat technically. She has always won against inferior competition in the 52 kg category. Nikhat is very technically sound. She might be the number one seed but Nikhat is a world champion too. I have spoken to Nikhat, and we have identified the weaknesses of the Chinese boxer and are fully prepared. Despite the rusty start, Nikhat got back into form in her first match. Nikhat will win the next round 5-0."
Discussing her medal chances further, Mr Jameel added, "As I have mentioned previously, I feel there is one match between Nikhat and the Gold Medal. If you look at the draw, we sort of get an idea of who Nikhat could face in Quarters, Semis and Finals. Nikhat has battled and defeated most prospects previously in other tournaments. Therefore, without any doubt, I can say that all the hard work my daughter has put in will pay off and Nikhat will definitely secure the Gold Medal for our Country."
Role of Coaches and Staff
Mr. Jameel also highlighted the crucial role played by coaches and support staff in shaping Nikhat's journey. He said, "All the coaches, support staff, psychologists and counsellors have put in a lot of hard work. They have helped Nikhat immensely. Without them, Nikhat wouldn't be the same."
He continued by acknowledging their efforts on mental preparation: "They worked extensively on the mental aspect of the game as well. I would like to thank each one of them for all their dedication & the authorities for backing my child as well."
Emphasising their goal, Mr. Jameel concluded with determination: "I'd like to repeat that we aren't going to stop at anything except the Gold medal and this will be a win for every single citizen of the country." The family remains proud of what she has achieved so far.
Nikhat Zareen's journey towards securing gold continues with strong support from her family and coaching team.
