Manipur MMA Fighter Requests PM Narendra Modi To Visit Violence-Hit State

Popular Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter Chungreng Koren on Monday made an emotional appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit Manipur, his home state, which has been affected by violence for months now. The MMA fighter appealed from the center of the ring during Matrix fight night.

Chungreng Koren said, "This is my humble request to PM Modi ji. There is violence in Manipur and it has been almost a year. People are dying every day. So many are also in relief camps without proper food or water. Children are unable to study. We are worried about the future. Modi ji, please visit Manipur once and restore peace in the state."

While requesting the Prime Minister to take cognizance of the violence-hit state, Koren broke down towards the end of the message. His video is now widely circulated and social media users are asking the Prime Minister to speak up and take some action on Manipur.

Talking to the media, Chungreng Koren said Manipur's voice need to be heard and he wanted to say more about the ground reality but he got emotional and ran out of words.

The MMA fighter from Manipur was crowned the new Interim MFN Bantamweight champion at MFN 14.

According to the reports, more than 219 people lost their lives in the violence since May last year. Reportedly the violence took place between the Meitei and Kuki communities over the demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.
