Liverpool's Shock Loss to Nottingham Forest: Arne Slot Reacts
Arne Slot experienced his first defeat as Liverpool manager with a surprising 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest in the English Premier League. This defeat ended Slot's perfect record since taking over from Jurgen Klopp at Anfield last season. "We had a lot of ball possession but only managed to create three or four quite good chances, so that is by far not enough if you have so much ball possession," said Slot, expressing disappointment over the loss.

Manchester City Maintains Perfect Record
Manchester City remains the only team with a 100% record in the league after a 2-1 victory against Brentford. This win keeps the defending champions at the top of the table. Erling Haaland scored twice, moving to 99 goals for City. His goals came after Yoane Wissa put Brentford ahead just 22 seconds into the match. Haaland has nine goals in four league games this season.
Liverpool's defeat was sealed when Callum Hudson-Odoi scored in the 72nd minute with a curling shot from the edge of the box, beating goalkeeper Alisson. This loss leaves Manchester City as the sole team with an unblemished record in the league. United ended their two-game losing streak with a 3-0 win at Southampton.
Rashford Ends Goal Drought
Marcus Rashford ended his 12-game goal drought as United defeated Southampton. Rashford doubled United's lead after Matthijs de Ligt scored his first goal for the club. Substitute Alejandro Garnacho added a third goal in stoppage time. Rashford hadn't scored since March in United's FA Cup quarterfinal win over Liverpool.
United manager Erik ten Hag believes this could be a turning point for Rashford. "For every striker, they want to be on the scoring list. Once the first is in, more is coming. Like a ketchup bottle, once it's going, it's coming more," he said. De Ligt headed in from Bruno Fernandes' cross in the 35th minute.
Villa's Dramatic Comeback
Everton seemed poised for their first win of the season after leading Aston Villa 2-0 with goals from Dwight McNeil and Dominic Calvert-Lewin. However, Ollie Watkins scored twice to level the game before Jhon Duran completed Villa's comeback with a goal in the 76th minute, securing a 3-2 victory. This result leaves Everton at the bottom of the table without any points.
Southampton missed a crucial penalty when Cameron Archer's effort was saved by goalkeeper Andre Onana in the 33rd minute. The newly promoted team was reduced to 10 men when Jack Stephens received a red card for a high challenge on Garnacho in the 79th minute.
Late Drama Across Matches
Jean-Philippe Mateta converted a stoppage-time penalty to secure a 2-2 draw for Crystal Palace against Leicester. Leicester had taken a 2-0 lead with goals from Jamie Vardy and Stephy Mavididi, but Mateta sparked Palace's comeback with a goal in the 47th minute and then converted the penalty near full-time after Conor Coady fouled Ismaili Sarr.
West Ham also salvaged a point with late drama, drawing 1-1 against Fulham thanks to Danny Ings' goal in added time after Raul Jimenez had given Fulham the lead. Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler expressed frustration as his team was held to a goalless draw at home by Ipswich.
Slot had previously won his first three games as Liverpool manager, including an impressive 3-0 victory against Manchester United before the international break. However, this run ended with Hudson-Odoi's decisive goal for Nottingham Forest.
Liverpool's unexpected loss is seen as a significant setback, especially considering Nottingham Forest is not typically expected to finish in the top ten of the league standings. "If you lose a home game it's always a setback, especially if you face a team ... we never know, maybe they will go all the way to fight for Champions League tickets, but normally this team is not ending up in the top 10, so if you lose a game against them that's a big disappointment," Slot remarked.
The weekend's matches showcased both dramatic comebacks and surprising results, keeping fans on edge and highlighting the unpredictable nature of football.
