Lakshya Sen's Win Over Kevin Cordon Nullified After Injury Withdrawal
Lakshya Sen's victory over Kevin Cordon in the opening men's singles Group L match will not be counted. This is because Cordon has withdrawn from the Paris Olympics due to a left elbow injury. The Badminton World Federation (BWF) confirmed this update.

Impact on Group L Matches
Cordon's withdrawal affects the remaining Group L matches. His scheduled matches against Indonesia's Jonatan Christie and Belgium's Julien Carraggi will not take place. The matches were set for 29 July 2024 and 31 July 2024, respectively. These matches have been rescheduled on their respective courts.
According to BWF General Competition Regulations, all results involving Cordon in Group L are now nullified. This means that any match played or yet to be played with Cordon is considered deleted. The global governing body of badminton made this announcement.
Changes in Group L Dynamics
With Cordon out, Group L now consists of only three players: Jonatan Christie, Julien Carraggi, and Lakshya Sen. Sen will be the only player in the group to have played three matches. Christie and Carraggi will each play two matches to advance to the knockout stage.
Sen is set to face Carraggi on Monday and will compete against Christie in his final group match on Wednesday. The 22-year-old Indian shuttler aims to secure his place in the knockout rounds through these crucial matches.
The withdrawal of Cordon, who was a semifinalist at the Tokyo Olympics, significantly alters the dynamics of Group L. This change means fewer matches for some players, impacting their chances and strategies for advancing further in the competition.
The BWF's decision to delete all results involving Cordon ensures fairness in the competition. It prevents any undue advantage or disadvantage to other players in Group L due to Cordon's withdrawal.
Lakshya Sen now has an opportunity to capitalise on this situation by focusing on his upcoming matches. His performance in these games will determine his progression in the Paris Olympics badminton competition.
The rescheduling of matches also affects the overall timetable of the badminton events at the Paris Olympics. Fans and participants need to stay updated with these changes to follow their favourite players' progress accurately.
The BWF continues to manage such situations by adhering to its regulations, ensuring a fair and competitive environment for all athletes involved in the tournament.
Sen's journey in the Paris Olympics remains a focal point for Indian badminton fans. His upcoming matches are crucial for his advancement and potential success in this prestigious event.
The conclusion of Group L matches will reveal which players advance to the knockout stages, setting the stage for more intense and competitive encounters as the tournament progresses.
